    Hi guys

Whats the best tool for fixing ply?, ive currently got a electric mestra stapler but its only good for small jobs and its always jamming its been sent off twice for fixing comes back works for a month then starts jamming again, i know some of you guys have the coil nailers, are they any better than the air staplers (boshstitch type etc)? and do you have to feather finish over the whole ply to cover the nails?
Also whats the best brand to get as im looking to invest in one.

    cheers

Lots of differing, opinions, but for me the coil nailers are much better.
I always find the staples pull through, on everything but a perfect surface.
Also lots of opinions on the best nail guns. Max have always been good for me, as have Hitachi.
I always feather over the complete area (not just joints), or cover with 700/renovation, or fiber screed of choice.

Most important with air tools, is to keep them oiled, or they will jam/fail

I've got the spotnails stapler and compressor mates got coil nailer for me it's the staples that's better the coil nailers leave wire poking up around a lot of nails and if you pin to close to edge the ply kicks up round nails last year we layed 1800 sq 6mm ply on wood access panels ad stapes wentfine no jamming or missfire, my compressor has the oil feed attatched so no need to keep oil topped up in gun lie mates coil ailer but that's just my opinion

ive got a coiler, and hjave had no probs at all so far
Been using bostitch coil nails and nailer for yrs and very rarely get the wire left sticking up
Got some spotnails ones recently, not used them yet as still have bostitch ones and tbh im dreading using them after seeing what a couple of the lads are saying about them leaving wire sticking up etc
Got a 125m2 karndean job to do shortly so am considering just getting more bostitch nails to be safe lol:rolleyes:

trever. I find as soon as they get hot, stop using and do some cutting. We have 2 cos you cant ever do large areas in one go. Staples only half go through or they jam.

I have both, I only use the staples if I'm going over chipboard and its flat.
I use coil nailer most of the time,
I just got the nails which are held together with the wires not the plastic and it left bit of wires sticking up. Wasn't happy as had to scrape them all off

I've just bought a fasco coil nailer and it's fantastic :) ok, needed a wee bit of patience to get the adjustment right for the nail depth but now it's done it works a treat. TBH the only time I use the maestri stapler now is for gripper if I'm raising it for thicker underlay.
