    Hi all,
This is my first post, so I'm hoping i can call on you, my piers, for some advice.

I've just been to measure a karndean job.
It's in a first floor bedroom in a pretty standard victorian semi detached house with timbre floorboards.

The customer has asked about sound proofing

    What are the options?

My initial thoughts were Uzin RR 188, 5.5mm (SP101) ply, feather then karndean.

I've not used the RR188 before.

    a, Would this work?

b, How is it fixed? (Glued? loose laid?)

(I'm kind of kicking myself, as i saw the uzin rep at the wholesalers this morning!)

That Uzin product looks like Regupol 4515, probably 5mm thick.
We fitted a whole block of flats which failed the sound test, with sheet vinyl, on 4515
I would say, using that system, ply & feather, then 4515, then tile on top. Not sure how suitable it would be with tile, as we have only covered with sheet.

What about Jumpax or similar ?

The uzin is 3mm rubber/cork composite, I did a quick search through previous posts and saw about the regupol. They look very similar.
I've used Forbos cork under marmoleum in the past but I'm uncertain about LVT over cork.

    I've not used Jumpax before.
I've also read you need to leave expansion in the jumpax and the floorcovering. The skirtings are original and not being removed/replaced.
There is the also downside of 48 hr acclimatisation.

Luckily, it doesnt need to pass any dB tests.

Will probably advice against any soundproofing.

It would be nice to find a product as I've been asked about soundproofing timber subfloor before.

Karndean do versilay (similar to jumpax)..
You mentioned about 48hrs acclimatisation?? Most products ideally need to aclimatise to the humidity levels of the property..

Acclimatisation of all products is a valid point.
That still leave the issue of expansion??

What sound benefit would versilay/jumpax offer instead of 5.5mm ply?
Would you still need to over ply the floorboards or will the product float over boards?

I have to send the quote out today, probably without offering soundproofing.

I hope the thread will continue, as I'd like to hear others opinions.

    Regupol 4515 4.5mm
    Karndean.

    Worked well.

Bump* hey, did you glue directly onto the regupol? I have a job where there is the same insulation down at 4.5mm and I'm wanting to fit Karndean Knight tile straight on top with universal? Would that work..
