Hello all, I'm getting ready to install a new floor on the ground level of my slab on grade home. I live in northern Illinois one hour southwest of Chicago. In the winter it gets pretty cold on that concrete slab. Wondering what I can install over the slab but underneath the new floor to create a barrier from the cold concrete. I thought of laying down ½ inch plywood throughout and use tapcon screws to anchor it down to create that barrier...is that such a good idea...?

That could work once there's no moisture or condensation arising from the slab when it's covered as it would weaken the plywood. I have anchored 1/2" plywood to concrete floors before for various reasons and never had issues. Sent from my SM-S901B using Tapatalk
Was planning on laying plastic sheathing on the concrete and plywood over that... thanks for your input very much appreciated...
Probably better with something like roofing felt or bitumen paper underneath, as it will seal round the screws. Plastic sheeting will be useless after you put lots of screw holes in it. Another option could be kingspan or similar with a floating chipboard floor on top,depending on height restrictions
