Put here lads what ply you use and is it any good. Not checked my main supplier yet but a place we used a while ago which my mate said was good was called Chinese WBP combi cure xtraplex, now not sure if that's the cheap Chinese ply but it when in my mates house with van gogh laid on it. Will check it out over coming months.
Hi all Our suppliers stocks and sells all manner of plywood from cheap as chips chinese WPB to 100% Birch ply. They recommend Malaysian or Braziliam plywood and absolutely condemm Chinese ply being used for flooring applications. We did use to use Wickes as the standard seemed fine for 6mm, however we have noticed a decline in the quality they supply. I even bought some from a reputable Flooring Distributor at an inflated price and I have to say the quality was awful and I backed it. Basically you get what you pay for, if you are using a builders merchant and paying £7-£8 a sheet for an 8' x 4' then it is most likely low quality Chinese ply, the term WPB has no bearing on the standard of quality. We pay around £10 per sheet for good quality plywood pre cut into 4' x 2' panels, but we have to buy a minimum of 1 pallet which is about 100ish sheets. Even when ensuring the providence of the plywood we still get the occassional rogue board. Its something we are very careful about using as we have had our fingers burnt before with ply edges that delaminate when feather finish is applied. It is a great topic of Sid's in CFJ and I personally think there should be a stgandardisation of quality so that both consumers and installers know exactly what they are paying for.
