Should you always use 6mm over chipboard in preperation for Lvt planks or is it ok to use 4mm ? Half the floor is concrete and half chipboard, (new extension) but the builder has left the chipboard slightly higher than the concrete :roll:
As long as its decent ply 4mm will be ok. I did my loft in 4mm ply on new chipboard then laid amtico spacia. No ply lines as well after 3 years. You could 4mm ply then wood screed over the lot.
Do the say you have to use 6mm or above. The guarantee is crap anyway mate as I've found out before. The 15 / 20 wear guarantee is rubbish as it won't wear out.
I have heard about the way they get out of all problems ! :lol: :lol: fair enough ! If 4mm will work that's what I will use because of the height problem
Do a lot of you use 4mm when its chipboard, also whats the issues with feather finish over the chipboard ?
4 mm is fine if teh subloor is smooth like chipboard. Problem with chipboard is the waxes. They will stop adhesives etc sticking properly. Also smotthing compounds tend to make the joints swell.
As chipboard is already flat ( or it should be) the ply is really just a covering for the adhesion and shouldn't make any difference for the feathering. To be fair to Karndean a mate of mine had them accept responsibility for some that had bleached due to sunlight five years after he fitted it for a customer. They also covered all his labour and ply although he really had to chase them hard and it took about four months.
