It takes alot of thought into these topics when its quiet on here at night. Well what do you do in the morning before going to a job.? Straight from your house to the job? To your garage? Cafe? Flooring supplies shop? Mums? Most mornings I go over to Liverpool flooring supplies jedens and pick up any screed etc i need. I store screed , adhesive and some materials there. Also maybe call at a builders yard I get LVTs delivered to. They have a skip too which is handy if the boss ain't looking. At Jedens i have a couple of free coffees, chat about football then off to the job.
Normaly suppliers first thing as good burger van for a bacon sarnie and coffee or 2, hang around having bit of banter while warehouse boys load the van up, pick mate up if he's not already with me stop at petrol station round corner for more coffee then at customers for 9am ish hoping they have kettle on for coffee hmmm may have a coffee problem
most Monday's im up 5-6AM with 2-3hr drive to look forward to, quick wash 'n teeth brush, downstairs kettle on & one into the travel mug, then slip out without waking the sleeping wife 'n kids... try to arrive at job for 8-8,15 with advance notice sent to client of a "nice strong coffee please" upon arrival... materials etc loaded int van on Sunday! then it's grovelling around on the old knees 'til around 6,30-7PM, tools down & away to my B&B for usually 3-4 nights... Nice this week to be home every night as 2 nice local jobs - well it'sthe wife's b'day Wed so least i could do...
Get up 6-30ish, walk dog for 45 mins, come home, drink tea wife has made (earl grey) all my suppliers deliver to me, they all have code to get into garage, so rarely need to go to wholesalers. Cut up any hsl's load van, do any ordering that needs doing. Take youngest to school, come home, have fresh coffee, leave at 8-45 to go to first job, taking dog with me. Fit until about 3-30-4pm, walk dog for an hour. Then normally go and do quotes until sometime between 8-10pm, go home shower, eat, drink, go to bed. then start again. Normally work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Don't work Thursday, Saturday or Sunday unless there's a problem.
Getting on a bit, work around 50 hrs in 4 days, figure thats enough.and the way my pensions look I'll be fitting till I'm 70 so need to pace myself
Fair play. Thought it might be a golf or similar thing. I have a mate plumber who has every other Friday off to play golf. I tried to do it but was always too busy
For the 5 weeks b4 Christmas I was fitting 5/6 days a week, and realy suffered for it after, (back, knees) and working on your own when you get to the point that 50% of all your profit goes to the tax or VAT man it hardly seems worth it.
I do all kinds of things in the morning depending on how organised I'e managed to get the day before. Materials are delivered to my house/outbuilding so no need to pick stuff up usually but often need to get some ply. Sometimes go into a supermarket for a big fatboy breakfast which sets me up for the whole day. I try to hit site for 9am so the time I set off depends how local I'm working. I assume no-one is interested in my bowel movements
Whether kneeling on the floor stretching cloth, or sitting on the thunderbox touching cloth, it's "quality, not quantity" There's a lesson for us all in there somewhere.
