    Hi everyone,

I'm just looking to get some advice on which wooden floors to lay in our living room. We own a small cottage which is approximately 160 years old. Its stone built and has exposed stonework on one side of the living room. It's quite old and characterful so I'm concious that anything we put in has to be in keeping with the age and character of the property.

    The room has concrete floors.

I'm just looking for some guidance on which floors people think would look best in an old cottage?

The flooring I've looked at so far has been made up of smaller pieces of wood with lots of joints which looks too modern and too obviously not original. I'm guessing that my only option would be to use reclaimed oak planks over a 'floating floor' which will then cause issues with the doors needing to be altered or is there an alternative option which will give the authentic look?

Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Nick

I have just done a cottage similar age. Used distinctive Italian label Roma. Looked great and customers said it fitted in well with the decor.

Hello friend, I would suggest you hardwood flooring as it is very easy to maintain and clean stains and dirt. Also, hardwood floor will remain the same for a long time. Thanks

reclaimed aged oak engineered wide plank floor is good choice to suite on your jobsite, the plank could be adjusted with 12mm or even 10mm .If even with 10mm oak engineered plank still not possible for your doors, you can consier 2mm PVC flooring with aged oak look to match your decor, cheap & quicker.

You can have many options. You can go for hardwood flooring, engineered hardwood flooring, walnut flooring, merbau or wenge flooring. Personally, if I have to suggest one, then I will recommend engineered hardwood flooring as it is one of the best types of woods for your interiors.
