    Hi all,

I've been asked to fit carpets to a room that has a concrete subfloor that is sloping due to subsidence (now fixed), the end 1m of the room slopes down approx 40mm. and is 3.2m wide.

Normally this is outside my skills but it's for a family member so they are happy for me to use them as practice.

The suppliers I use mainly stock Mapei and I was thinking of using their Planitop Smooth and Repair to build up the subfloor (possibly in 2 applications if it's more than 40mm deep).

Would this do the job? Anything I need to know, tools, etc? and will I be able to lay to it (assuming I do a good enough job) or would it need a smoothing compound on top?

    Thanks all

Could build up with ply or cement board first then smooth out

    Oh thanks for the spanner

Wouldn’t that be hard where it’s a slope?

Mapei renovation goes up to 40mm. That will be good enough to fit straight in top of

Yeah tbf I’ve just re read it’s only 1m wide slope. Renovation screed or a levelling compound with aggregate?

Set some depth markers on the floor first then just pour it in, should be easy enough

Cool thanks. I can see the depth as it just needs to go up to the base of the skirtings which are currently floating

Am I right in thinking a bag is that square meter age at 3mm depth? So at 5sqm I’d need 8.5 bags .
I’m totally out of my depth here

Your levelling 3.2 m2. So one bag should do around 6mm in that area. So 7 bags should do it?

Probably less as it’s not all 40mm depth I’m guessing if it’s a slope

OK thanks, I'll cost it up and let them know.... think they might live with the slope....

Firstly, check for any loose or squeaky boards. Secure those down with screws to keep everything tight. For larger gaps or uneven areas, using a leveling compound might be your best bet. It's a bit of a messy job but totally worth it for a smooth finish. Make sure you let it dry completely before moving on.

Also, I once had a similar issue and found some useful tips on https://mdfskirtingworld.co.uk/ . They’ve got some great advice on all things flooring. Plus, skirting boards can really finish off the look nicely once you're done with the subfloor.
