With todays underlays being nearly the same price as the cheapest floorcoverings on the market is it wise to say that people ie customers will only change the underlay if absolutely necessary?.I seem to be fitting lots of carpets and floorcoverings without underpadding recently. Is underlay do you think overpricing itself where as if it was cheaper then more customers would change it for the better.

well you can get cheap underlay but i think the problem is cheap customers. They cant see the benifit to using new underlay and while they are happy buying really cheap carpet that is not fit for purpose i dont think you will be able to sell underlay no matter how cheap it is.

Maybe in a couple of years time when they are replacing there carpet they will realise they should of used a good underlay and a better carpet.

Some people just want cheap! I was in kwik Fit tyres the other day getting a puncture repaired and someone came in asking how much his new brake pads was, think it was £45 fitted or something like that , he turned round and said " do you have any secound hand ones? "
If there are people out there moaning about £45 quid on the main part of his car that stops the bloody thing what hope do we have of selling new underlay!

People dont see the value in somthing that is hidden from view. It is only when there carpet fails and wears badly and the manufacturer say you did not fit new underlay thats why it has failed and why we will not do anything about it.
Then its everyone fault but theirs.------- If its too cheap it will not work or last.

I tend to agree with Lambchops thoughts on this, you don,t buy a new car and put old tyres on it!

Back on topic, I've been using Tredaire Elite. It's proper heavy but I love it and the price is good..

It is tough as always trying to sell your customer a good underlay that they probrebly won't be seeing for the next ten years or so, I just know they aren't gonna thank me in the future for selling them Appolo or Cosi.

What weight is that per roll Lambchop, and what size rolls? I used to use tredaire power about 10 years ago, good underlay but i doubt i could lift it now!

It's 123lbs if 15m, but comes in 11m rolls. Just gone down in price at our favorite retailer, 10 roll price is a bargain!
