was asked by a customer to look at her daughter in laws carpet (the mother in law is a long term customer) fitted to the stairs, now this was fitted as a "wedding present" by a friend. she said the carpet was loose and wrinkeled on the stairs. i call out and the carpet looked like i was down about 10 years instead of 6 mts. the girl said that their friend had called out to fix it and claimed he had used £40 worth of glue to fit it and what did she want with a cheap carpet. so i thought that it had been glue to felt glue to stairs but no, the fecker had stappled new (crap)felt to the old underlay, the gripper was about an inch away frm the gully, cut the carpet short and not straight on the sides and in places stappled to the gripper. (calmed down now)the carpet was a feltback not expensive he said the extra underlay would give it a luxury feel.i asked did she want a diplomatic answer or the truth (as it was a friend that fitted this), she said go for it so i pointed all the problems doing my very best not to swear (she was a bit of a doll), i showed her a tin of sprayglue and she confirmed that he said he had used it, then i showed her a case of the glue and said he would need to have used two case's to get £40 worth.... i was pissed off. sorry for the rant but should the price of the materail be an ever be an excuse for bad fitting and is there ever an occasion were one would use double stairpads? (i'am talking normal domestic here)
Years ago when i first started when weused hair felt we would tear it in half then put a peice down a few inches baack from the gripper and just over the nose of the stair,then put a full peice of underlay over the top. It worked a treat and would addd years to the life time of the carpet,unfortunately they didnt need replaced as quickly as they should ave but people would allways comment on how log their stair carpet had lasted. Thing is dont think you could do this with PU U/Lays or rubber as you would see a height difference
Wasn't me!! I hate the double pad question and refuse to fit over them if they are already on. For one the grip doesn't hold them and the sides always pop and need fixing. Not worth the hassle and crappy looking!! The guy must have been a glue sniffer £40 wtf????
i thought double stairpads went out with button boots like turn and tac or ring and pin, i think it must be a hangover from the days of stairrods (the real ones) or side clips i know it wasn't you snugfit as the guy is from ballyclare
Hate to break the news to you, but turn and tack (with nice big shiney chrome/brass round heads)), and stairrods/clips have been making a huge comeback over the last year or two, but in 20 years I've never come across double stair pads.
Hmmmm think I have an idea of who it might be!! If it's the same guy he turned up at a house in Carrick at 9.30pm to fit a room and left at 11.00pm saying the carpet was frozen and would have to be left over night.
