i will look into what is allowed in copying it as such.

I was thinking of putting all the BS standards in the trade section but as a 'read' only file, basically you cant print it. Like a library.

Im not sure on the laws tho? anyone else no?

Better watch out for BS police don't wanna upset them. Why can't it be posted for all to see I fail to understand why, if these are standards we should be following then we should all be able to see them. I know you usually have to buy them as they can be downloaded from some website. I strongly object to paying for some list of stadards that some busy body keeps writing up every year and changing things to justifiy his/her job when I'm already being taxed left right and centre by the government. How on earth can any organisation expect anyone to follow standards that they have set and keep changing when they don't make it freely available.
Sorry Matt rant over and it wasn't aimed at you we should be able to just walk in somewhere and pick up a copy FREE.

Yeah its a pain. You use to be able to view them at your local library but they have decided not to pay to hold them any more, due to cut backs apparently? I need a question answered if possible Matt? I tried to order them from the main guildford library but they wanted £5 and 50p per page, when I asked how many pages there were they just said dont know. Seems like they dont have clue, anyway I couldnt order them because im not a member at the library. Got bored by then and found something else to get on with. I was just wondering what the bs standard for installing resilliant floorcoverings was and what bs consider a flat floor for fitting vinyl tiles to?? ;)

I use a 6 foot spirit and if I can't slide a £1 coin under the edge then that is acceptable as the coin is the same size (height) as the official sized ones that BS use. Might be wrong mind you but has kept me going for years and no problems yet

Ohh i see!.But also i dont really think that you are sad,i think that you have to be told that "youre sad" by someone else so that you can call them a bitch or other reactive slurs so i can only assume that you talk to yourself.

8204.1 is the BS that tells us what level the subfloor should be. I dont have a copy of that with me but will grab a copy.

And the Vinyl BS number is BS8203.

It would be nice if it was FREE. In my eyes it should be available to all to view. Might actually up the quality of the work in the U.K if the consumer could read the standards for themselves. But also could you imagine the crap it could cause for some people? Again i belive that if people cant work to BS then they should find a new trade.

The reason why they change tho Jay is to keep up with new products and discontinued products of the past. As solvent glues are disappearing and being replaced by water based products teh standards need to change also. Other wise we would be working from standards that wont work any more with certain products.

For instance, wooden floors. The standards are being changed as we speak to lower the maximum moister level allowed in a subfloor. A few years ago when wood was installed in bitumen you effectively was installing a dpm at the same time. now we use water based products that cant be used if moister is present. Hence the standards are being changed!

Point taken Matt but with all the change a free copy should be issued for us otherwise how else would we know. I mean yes we have the WWW and forums like this where we can shoot questions at each other for help and yourself which is very helpfull. But I don't take my pc to work with me and may need to know something right now and don't have access to something I should.
Do the NICF issue you with a copy when you are a member or the CFA, or even distributors at the trade counter pick up your free copy.
Anyway BS will soon be a thing of the past and will be replaced with the ISO. Then the price will go up.

it comes down to price again. If the NICF was to add another £50 quid to there membership costs to cover a copy of BS then they would have even less members

like i said before tho, i would like to make it available for you to view on here in the trade section. but i dont know about copyright laws and what is allowed? Anyone know?

I'm not clued up on copy right laws but IMO its for flooring this is a flooring forum so one cancels out the other.
All that aside I hate all this cloak and dagger lark its a public and profesional document which should be freely available to all to view online at directgov website.

The other problem is that all the pages are water marked with who paid/ownes the copies of the BS. They must do this so people don't put it up on forums.
