Been doing a few tests to see what seems to be the best primer. First i laid a weakish screed. (trying to replicate a builders screed ) Then i put down a few different primers. The idea of this test is to find which primer penetrates the screed best to give you the best fixing. I was using gripper to test as im trying to find a 'cheaper' and better primer than 'spray adhesive' before you sticking gripper. I then stuck gripper to the primers and strapped up my clamps and started to clamp away. I have recorded how much pressure there was before each primer failed. Anyway- more testing to be doen yet. Any suggestions of what primers you would like testing? So far i have tested= No Primer at all .. Fball 131 neat Fball 131 4/1 Uzin 360 PVA Neat PVA 4/1 Spray Adhesive Mapei Eco Prim Neat Mapei Eco Prim 4/1 Mapei 1K Turbo Mapei Prim grip 2 part Resin/Epoxy Any more you want me to add? O and to get some pics up for a change so you can see i actually do test stuff that is sent to me, also note in the back ground you can see me testing a DPM and then 2 different screeds get laid also . Actually it was FBALL 300 v Mapei Ultraplan.
I know that's what my father and grandfather use to say, if only we could find away of putting it in a tube and selling it this time next year we'd be millionaires, smack round the back of the head ouch. Seriously though we could hold our plates upside down and the sprouts would stay stuck to the plate as would the gravy, and the best thing even the dishwasher would struggle to shift it bless her she never was that good at gravy nor me how many slices of gravy would you like with your roast beef.
I was thinking that one cause they use to do one for primming before using gripfill to stick gripper but I can't remember what its called either.
Is it the laybond screedmaster universal primer you lads are trying to think of ?, they also do an epoxy primer, and another one called dp50 i think, hope this helps
Yes but the test is still on going with other products! 1- 1k Turbo, is the strongest by far but this is a very expensive primer and needs a couple of days to fully cure. So no good for gripper 2- Mapei Eco prime 3- Uzin Pe260 4- Spray Adhesive The problem is tho the drying times compared to spray adhesive. Like i say tho, its a on going test at the moment.
No mate, i tested 131 primer but it was the weakest of the lot so never bothered posting up the result. Saying it is weak, dont forget im using the primer for something its not designed to be used for. There is nothing wrong with 131 primer being used over DPM's etc. I really like FBalls stuff but if there is better 'in my opinion' out there i will use tho's products. I still use Fballs adhesives at the moment !
cool, Is the test with hot melt only, or are you testing with f32/gripfill/pinkgrip etc etc as well? Would like to know the best combos, as sticking gripper is always a bit of a lottery imo. Drill and plug is the only method that guarantees it stays put, nightmare though.
I have only tested with Hotmelt mate. In every test the primer has failed before the hotmelt. To me this is enough evidence of which primer is the strongest. If the hot melt fails before the primer then i will move on to stronger adhesives
Is hot melt actually that strong? Every time Ive uplifted a job thats had the gripper fixed with that stuff it just falls off or peels off in long lines.
Hot melt does not like to be shocked. A lot of fitters hit the gripper with there stretcher and this causes it to shear and the other issue is the bonding to the subfloor. Hence my primer testing :thumbs and another issue is that a lot of fitters don't use the correct adhesive. They use a small hobby glue gun instead of the industrial one. They use two completely different bond strengths of adhesive. If used correct the bond is very strong.
