I was asked last week to inspect a carpet by a retailer,the carpet was in a nursing home and the joins were coming apart. the retailer did not fit or supply the carpet, and i don't do work for him, he wanted a totally unbised opinion. tell me what you think[attachment=0:1c297e9s]P190111_12.16.jpg[/attachment:1c297e9s]
need a bit more info! How old is the install? What method was used to install i.e twin stick / stretch fit etc What sort of traffic? Beds/ wheel chairs running over it or just foot traffic etc? What adhesives was used? Seaming adhesives / carpet adhesives/ method used to do the join? How is the carpet maintained / cleaned? dry cleaned / wet cleaned / steam ? What sort of contruction is the carpet? And what are they exactly wanting you to do? do they want tyou to repair the carpet? do they want you to do a report to say what you think is wrong? Are they trying to claim against the installer maybe? Need to be carfull what you do if it may be something that ends up in court
sorry about the file are so big don't know how to resize there's another one but the file is to big. basically the black tape is covering a inch wid split,as you can see this the busiest place to place the join,i didn't remove it. Oh! and it was fitted double stick method about 4 years ago, on cloud 9 underlay,i know this because the backing is delamating from the underlay,the border shown lifts and shows it
answered to fast for me.. the retailer asked me to see what i could do with it (but he hadn't see it himself). joins no tape whatsoever not sure about under black tape cleaned by vac 2x daily (met the cleaner & mantance guy) traffic all of the above construction 80/20 axminster the client had aready made their mind to replace the carpet so the question is retorical
The choice is to "plate it up" being the cheaper option (temporarily making it safe),or to replace the lot and do a proper job costing to normal conditions.It beats me that the carpet choice outweighs the standard of installation quality, meaning that a carpet at half that price and the other half spent on the correct fitting standards, would most probably would have meant that we wouldnt be having this conversation.
