Hi there, We've had a subfloor levelled with arditex na. We've bought some engineered parquet which we were hoping to float (manufacturer says you can do this). Speaking to a couple of installers they've said floating parquet will be a bit of a nightmare and that we'd be better off glueing it down. I've read though that the compression strength of NA is too low, though this is usally in the contex of solid wood. Can you glue engineered wood to arditex na? Any advice massively appreciated, not keen on ending up trying to deal with a failed floor in 6 months time... Thanks!
You can float the floor if the latex is flat. If you speak to Ardex they are now saying you can glue to NA. I think it would depend on the size of the board and the environment it’s installed in. More importantly the subfloor will need to be dry enough to stick to
Personally I would suggest you float over na and not glue to it. If something causes the wood to move it will likely sheer off the latex as you’ve read
Problem is you’ve got a herringbone floor I’m guessing? There’s very few I would trust floated. Depends on the manufacturer. If it was quickstep I’d say no problem.
I think we're going to stick down to the NA, it's an engineered floor and pretty solid when put together, thinking it wont move too much... My other thought was to nail down some 4mm ply and glue to that, with a liquid dpm under the ply. I've seen a few people say you'd be puncturing the dpm with the nails doing that, but then there is a DPM under the concerete (1970s house) and the subfloor is dry. In generaly, this stuff is incredibly confusing. Nearly wish we'd kept the 40 year old avocado carpet that was there before.
