I've just got back from the 1st week of the Floorskills apprenticeship and would like to add a few comments about my experience. I've been in the flooring trade installing various types of floor coverings since 1985 and have a reasonable background in the theory and practical aspects of the flooring types that I install including moisture, prepwork and fitting. I've got to say that the content was really in depth. I've learned some new stuff already and can say that if the other guys (and gal) apply themselves they'll come out as very knowledgeable and capable quality installers. I'm looking forward to the rest of the course. Thanks to Matt, Dave, Dan, Jessie and Dawn.
That's as long as ME... I'm still learning too, I look at my notes all the time.. They say "why am I still doing this".. Lol
Thanks mate, Must say that Trimmer is a very good installer and would walk the NICF Master fitter test with ease from what i have seen of him so far. For him to leave us learning then im very happy. This chap is already a very very good installer. Banter was good also, the others on the course was referring to Trimmer as the knowledge guru. Also thanks mate for picking up the gas leek from the heater. Plumber cant find a leek and the fact its a electric heater is confusing. He suggests it was a natural gas escape , i wonder where from ??? ...........
Just bang a lighter around and see what happens ! lol Charlie enjoyed his time with you, cheers for the lift to and from the station etc etc Lot`s to learn I think....
I had a discussion with lad couple of days ago about coming on the sub floor prep course with me and mate and he laughted and asked why I'm paying to be shown how to put latex down when I've been doing it 16 years this is a bloke who mixes up with a boor bar hasn't got a spikey roller and uses a buffing machine for hours to get trowel marks out, your never to old to learn different better methods and find out about new products
Ahhh, I see, I have always pulled a section of suspend ceiling down and mixed with that. It`s a bit bendy, and sometimes the lights go out, but I don`t want to waste 5' of gripper ! or a door bar
Charlie is going to be showing you a few tips and tricks i hear ........ LOL. Charlie done really well. He has the ability of becoming a very high quality installer. I wish they could stay for a month with us continues rather a few days. It would be great to send him back to you all singing and dancing. For reference i hope next time he comes along and returns back to you he will be able to stitch a bullnose step , cap + band, fully prep and install a twin stick system. Like i say, we have to start off slow but he will be making massive leaps forward soon.
I knew a bloke who threw a 15ltr tub of f3, across the adhesive he had just spread. A distance of about 8' The f3 jumped out of the tub, and hit the ceiling. I was much younger !
Ask Charlie ! Ask him if he can prepare a subfloor, apply dpm , slect correct primer, compound etc and can he put it all down......... well he can!
Yes mate, he has already told me where i`m going wrong. I`m not buying your Sprinter anymore, i`m buying a tractor and trailer instead ! Sulking !
Charlie told me you have some wondrous tools, which need vigorous site evaluation. Better DHL them down, so I can sort that out...
PMSL, If charlie had his way he would be walking around like a film star with his new clothes. He said that you would pay, i told him to phone you to confirm that it was o.k....... He settled for some new boots only. Another 2 on the course (father and son), well the son was picking out all types he wanted, he spent a few hundred quid and then give his dad a bollocking when his dad wanted something for himself. Charlie has also spent a day in Victoria carpets factory seeing how carpets are made etc. He should be a top sales boy also now with his knowledge.
