Just get a few boxes of spray and spray them all down, that's the best way :) and you'll have a good laugh by the end of the day
I always use a plastic bolster and metal bolster and hook most carpets in. I agree you have to fit different carpets in different ways.
Mapei is the best mate, goes miles and comes in a bucket like Trimmer said

I hook in just short then silicone, sometimes double sided tape if it doesn't lay flat. only do sheet vinyl in bathrooms really so needs sealing...
