Come on then, let's hear your storys, a bit of honesty lol I've heard a certain young carpet fitter of the year has a few to tell lol

I'll start a few years ago I was fitting a bedroom, I'd got the gripper down, even hammering the nails in made the floor bounce, went to get the thick crumb underlay, half way uptairs the mobile springs into life, it was the Mrs givin me grief, I walked into the bedroom and the heavy roll of underlay slipped off my shoulder, hit the floor turning it into a trampolean, there was a pause and an almighty smash downstairs, aye just like del boy and rodders I'd bounced the chandalear off the lounge ceiling, missing the customer by inchs, and damaging the newly laid laminate floor, glass and crystals everywhere. The thing was tho, I never got charged for it.

When cutting up a hsl i cut from the top. But when i cut up axi/woven i cut from the back. I have been known to forget to reverse the cutting plan and end up with the "L" for the hall and landing going the wrong way!

I cut up a very long H S L a few years ago in a wilton design.I cut it wrong.I rang the shop to say that the carpet was short and because of the design i couldnt match it up to complete the job.Went back next day and cut it wrong again so the estimator came out and said that it was measured incorrectly (phew!) got away with it twice.

Yes, used that one myself before now, not twice on the same job though!

Have also damaged vinyl when unrolling it, and told the wholesaler that it's been sent damaged and got a replacement.

Did a really awkward shaped landing a few years back in a loop berber, was pulling and tugging it all over the place to get it in position - eventually got it laid, stood back to admire it and realised there was a bit that had got caught on the gripper and pulled out all the pile right in the middle.
Got a free replacement on that as well, no wonder headlam don't make any money
