Loose slack, u-bend it, jump in the lift (prey it dont stop half way) then lay it out in the room as much as you can. Chop to size and leave it...

Exactly what Merit has said. Get the floor nice and flat before either. Dont put wood flooring down if there is dips here and there.

Which brand you using/recommend? Both mine are roberts but fancy an extendable one for my collection.
If its needed then yes. ....or you can 9mm it with ply if it needs raising that little more sticking with just feathered joints. I'd plyboard...
