Must be the time for vans to go wrong.
Mines in for a service today. Just been called to say needs this that and the other doing as well as the service. Another £1291.00 on top.
    Vans 5 years old.

Sometimes difficult to tell if it's the van that's dodgy, or the garage doing the work.
Amazes me how they always seem to find other problems, usually expensive ones.

It's a main dealer so normally more than an independent

Depends what this and that is, like if its £50 for wiper blades or £200 + fitting per tyre that that,s still legal but getting there, tell them to go jump of words to that effect. If its a bit more complicated then its a judgment call but with main dealers charging in the region of £80 an hour plus premium prices for parts think about it. If its a major issue or a safety concern you may just have to go with it.
I've known them charge £15 to fill the window washer bottle.

Brake vacuum pump leaking oil - apparently common fault with mk7 transit. New discs on front because existing are lipped. New middle roller to sld. One front wheel bearing.

The discs are no more lipped than they were 20k ago (I checked pads before service). New pump and gasket £50.
Wheel bearing - checked front wheels when I checked pads and seemed fine so will leave for a bit. I'll probably get them done by a pro though as there are a few tools I don't have that are needed to change them.

Pump and gasket fair enough. Disc's will have a certain lip, as Long as the thickness of the disc is within spec it not a problem, anyway there easy enough to get ( for a transit ) as well as the pads.
But then if you haven't the equipment or the time what ya do.
A lot or garage's price a service at a minimum price, a loss leader if you like, so are looking for extra to fix, can't really fault them for that, but some really push it hoping you know nothing about vehicle maintenance or over egg the pudding by over emphasis on the fault.

Well I worked my arse off all day 7:30-7pm only to drive my van into a low wooden fence in the asda car park. Huge dent into the rear passenger size arch. Dread to think what it costs to fix.

Reversed at speed into a lamp post in my old berlingo while rushing. Checked both mirrors before hand but was dead centre with back of van so i couldn't see it. Lol
