I keep getting asked the same old question I have this flooring I bought online can you fit it for me? this really annoys the hell out of me I have a showroom where I sell a wide range of products carpet vinyl lvt to be undercut by some dope with no flooring knowledge and a garage (or on occasion a few big names in the industry with a huge warehouse) was wondering how many of you experience this and do you give in and fit the flooring they have? rant over
I used to fit a lot of Karndean and other lvts bought of the internet as at the time i couldn't supply at a competitive price. I dont have a shop though so it didn't really bother me.
Nope! I had a customer in the shop a couple of days ago. Customer - I'm in to buy some Amtico design strips Me - Just design strips? Customer - Yes. I all ready have the flooring, 14 boxes online. I didn't realise I needed these strips and my fitter needs them now. Me - Oh that's a shame, we sell the complete service and would have advised you that you needed strips. Did you're fitter not suggest coming here in the first place? Customer - Oh I'm not sure Me - Well I'm sorry, we cannot help you. It goes against everything we are trying to achieve by assisting internet shoppers. These companies in a lot of cases haven't a clue about the product, they just have a computer and a lock up. She pretty much ran out at this point. Now I'll admit this is not how I like to treat folk but until consumers start to realise and appreciate that flooring is a trade and as such should be carried out start to finish by professionals then I will continue to treat them in this manner. It turns out that's its one of my subbys that's is doing the job. Really good fitter, he told her to come to me in the first place and get a supply only price and he's just charge her direct for the fitting, no problems with that........... she couldn't be bothered so she ordered it online!!!
ive been doing a few of these the only thing I do is put my fitting price up but im starting to get it a lot and annoys me losing out on the supply as that's what pays the bills in two minds to start refusing the jobs but its catch 22 because you lose a days fitting wage
Nothing wrong with what you've done, get loads ask but I usually tell them to get an internet fitter to do it. The other option is to seriously inflate your price for fit only.
As a shop we just let them know it's risky. What they gonna do when it comes in damaged or doesn't fit together. Same with carpets aswell. There gonna get a roll delivered to there doorstep. What if it has a line fault? What if they can't move it. As a shop you. Get the whole package and peace of mind. It's still hit and miss if they will pay the extra and go with us or not but just make them aware it's all good online untill something goes wrong.
I do fit stuff brought online but my price goes up at least 50%. I try to get them to email me the sizes so I don't waste time going out
That's what I do, only estimate the big ones everything else is price over email. No waste removed if they supply and fitting price has to go up.
I do loads of fit onlys but they are done on my time on the way home from days work 99% of them are carpets no new underlay or gripper and the rooms are always empty or I tell them im off. I personally used to get ****ed off with internet sales and used to turn them down untill I Sat down and thought about it a bit I dont waste fuel and time measuring, phone calls ordering, taking delivery or even taking it to them, there is no guarantees no door trimming rubbish removal is £30 fitting is £45 and as I don't trust anyone its all paid in cash which always goes stfaight in the bank I do 3 or 4 a week, I also think that its only going to get worse with internet sales and the best bit of advertising is word of mouth so if more people are buying and your name get passed around as the bloke who does fit only then theres more " on the way home work " for you. As i said i do tbem on way home after ive one days work and made a days money so internet sales dont bother me but should my work slow down because of internet sales then my views on it ill change
