Ive got a job on the go at the moment, cap and cove, in an open hospital. It`s looks like I might be getting a few similar jobs as well. Ive had a complaint about the smell of the adhesive today, so won`t be able to use it in future. Ive used a lot of different contact adhesives, inc Contact spray Siga tape F60 F61 I have used 2000s as well, if I have run out of everything else. Also used a Uzin contact years ago, solvent free, but can`t remember what it was called. Any how, we do a lot of wet rooms, and showers in gyms, which are in use 24hrs a day. Out of all the products F61/F60 sticks the best, and the bond seems to hold well, even after a number of years. I have seen the contract spray (Gold) fail, and the bond does not seem strong enough, for these applications. The solvent free ones I have used, are useless in the cold, and take hours to go off. So, is there a solvent free that works, and can bond as well as 60/61 ?
Would hot melt glue gun work? I have no idea as I've not ever used hot melt and hate vinyl work so just ignore me if you like
Ha, not gonna ignore anything mate.Would n`t work though, as it`s just a bead, and not covering the whole area. Funny enough, along a similar line, I work for a guy who is obsessed with mitres in capping. He wont allow us to wrap the capping, and want`s it mitred, but then tries to pull it apart. Now we use mitre mate on them, and there solid.
Yeah I like a bit if mitre mate but that's for the wood and laminate jobs normally lol. Its a shame they don't make the skirts with a self adhesive backing...but then they would probably be a **** to cut and mitre!
Cant remember what product it is but years ago we did hospital job and had the same problem and ended up using a product that was a cove a 100mm high pvc upstand and another which had a cap attached and seperate preformed external mitres but it had a 130mm ish high impact tape already stuck onto cove and upstand but as I say I cant remember what manufacturer it was ill try and find out tomorrow but it was over 10 years ago and may not be around anymore
When I do work up addenbrookes we use Balls contact tape..... Not my preferred choice but gets the job done.
I find the Balls one useless. Used to use Siga and it was mile better. Not sure if they stopped making it though. Have you seen the corridor which runs from Rosie, down to the food hall ? All done in contact tape, and all shrunk badly. About an 1" on the capping
Just spoke to old boss and it was cap and cove in one like this http://www.quantum-ps.co.uk/quantum+pvc+accessories+&+trims+cove+formers+ccf1+cove+formers-77.php but the storeman put the tape on 2 inch on cove and 2 inch and 1 inch on upstand
Yeah me too, do loads of cove and cap falls tape is good I use uzin www222 addy solvent free use it anywhere , takes a while to go off but get ya blowers and heat in there goes off in no time. Just a point on the spray adhesives that seem to be used by floor layers / companies these days , they are great for speed but be warned coz they can fail after a short period of time( 1 year onwards) . Plastercize migration. I Think was the scientific name I have seen it happen loads of time on these new build nhs walk in centres . Went to inspect one in Manchester the other day and the set in coving in the whole of the building was hanging off . Only been done about a year ago .
I think it was 222 we used before. It came with a little spongy roller attached. We were doing a metal staircase, mid winter, on nights. Hours and hours to go off, but did grab quite well in the end
Yeah that's right u are meant to use the roller supplied to put it on with to get a nice even coat. Yeah it does take ages to go off but you can speed things up a lot with heat and blowers
Has no one ever used the janser jan tac tape I think it's called, it's brilliant sticks really well easy to use not messy like contact. Not cheap I don't think but worth it IMO.
