Have a customer who has a solid in a hallway that's been down a few years about 10m2. the builder fit it with cleats direct to weyrock its now shrunk and squeeking badly. he wants to know if its possible to uplift without too much damage (skirts and architraves on top and doesn't want them removing) and refit probably on instalay or 3.6mm ply and fully bond as ply would raise levels out of line with rooms off it. he is going to try and find some more of it to give me a few more meters to play with, I think its nexus from TP's, but our store has stopped doing it. Anyone got any experience in this?
I wouldn't entertain that mate, once you start your ****ed if it don't work. Will he still pay you if it goes tits up and you wasted a day?
No wander it's squeaking...The builder shouldn't have nailed to weyroc. The height isn't an issue regards the architrave. Just cut them as normal. I'd personally want the skirts off. I know some lads undercut them but I find it easier to remove. You can also glue to chipboard, but I always prefer ply. I'd personally say a minimum of 9 mm ply if you're thinking about over boarding and nailing. Especially with it being a hallway, the expansion rate wont be as high as with a larger (wider) room. Your sticky underlay is an idea but just check the levels of the chipboard. Them flipping things sag like crazy sometimes. Got I hate chipboard..If it's up and down, and not corrected, the finish floor will be bouncing all over the place. Back to squeaky land.. I'm with Merit. Potential big headache for a PITA small hallway..
