Hi All, I have a customer who would like an engineered oak to the Lounge/Diner/Study And Hall but without beading or a flat trim around the perimeter! They dont want to remove the skirting as this will ruin decoration etc. The dont want LVT and they dont want solid wood due to cost.....Any ideas on how I can get round the expansion gap problem?
There's a Rolling Stones song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" I would play it to your customer. I've removed and refitted skirtings before as it goes back on slightly higher but not always practical. If possible maybe replace skirting with a deeper section.
Not possible, tell them two options take the skirting boards off or you put scotia on, only 2 options......unless you undercut all the skirting boards with a jamb saw but that isnt an avenue id like to go down myself, to much hassle when fitting under skirtings against walls
on many occasion when i've been faced with same / similar predicament i've gone down the under-cutting route to the whole skirting perimeter. timely & adds to the install time BUT gives a v,nice finish (Not as sweet as a new skirting ) i've used my Fein at times & also my Flex door trimmer... also added 1x day rate to costs for this extra service = worth the end result matey...
I'm with Welshy. Undercut and slide under but only sell them a glue system and not a click. Add extra charge for the hassle.
Please be aware if you undercut . Some dodgey spark or pkumber may have left wires or pipes etc right behind skirting get customer to sign and agree waiver before atempting. I use my crain door cutter set to just cut depth of skirt and then fein to finish but its so much easier to just remove carefully.
when i have had tricky customers in my wood floor shop with this request we have installed 6mm plywood when we have used an adhered all over product, or 10mm plywood for Floating floor, cutting it to the bottom part of the shape top of a skirting, it gives an effect as if its specially moulded tiered skirting, even with a squared top, but not if they are the small 3 inch chamfered type looks better than scotia
you can install a engineered without beading etc IF- Concrete subfloor is below 65% RH Wooden subfloor and flooring is withing 2% MC It is fully bonded Leave a few mm around edge (covered with silicon) Leave minor field expansion
