Amtico history..

    Does anyone know if Amtico were rubber when they first started?

    I bought some tiles, just out of curiosity really, of amtico that were from the 70's from an old chap that bought them from amtico but never had them fitted and boxed them up and forgot about them..

    1st gen Amtico was like phookn stone, & very brittle. 1 ickle scratch with the knife and it snapped in 100bits. Had to be v careful not to make a mess of scribing etc lol...
    Well that's the way I remember it from my 1st dabble with Amtico nearly 20yrs ago...

    Oh right, I'll try and get a bit more info on them.
    Sounds like I've been mugged off by a pensioner! :)

    Just been speaking to graham an he said they did ceramics years ago?
    But in Jedens is some Amtico in the passage. Done in 1975
    It's about 4-5 mm thick. Rock hard

    Yes they did do ceramics that were the same design as the flooring and yes they were a pain to fit !!

    Amtico actually had a distribution warehouse in Farnworth nr Bolton.

    amtico contract tiles were rubber backed. they had a pinky red backing and were very flexible. they were use in department stores etc i think they were called stratica
