just done a vinyl for a customer in her bathroom, when we got there they had already got a carpet fitter there fitting the stairs, omg what a rough job ,gaps at sides of risers ,winder not straight, landing on sideways .
seems he works out the back of a van ,when i asked him why he wasnt doing the bathroom he said he had priced for it but he was too dear,go figure what the hell did he price for the carpet then .
also a mate(joinr) had fitted the ground floor in solid oak and not left any expansion at front door and bottom of stairs god help them when it goes.
why dont people get the right people in to do the work it winds me up.

so is common sense, had the same today 5 beds double S/L lounge in carpet full prep they had someone in doing the study and hall in engineered looked a right a**e when he'd finished, beading was crap tiny expansions left and crappy underlay used. Plus i tested the concrete was 86% Rh, and quite rough and dusty so I latexed and 1k turbo'd it they didn't bother he told the customer the underlay had a dpm which would work!? sadly she already booked him before coming to me over the carpet I worked out how much i'd have charged to do a proper job and was only £100 dearer.

For some people its just the cheapest price regardless of anything else.

the worst thing was this customer was willing to pay whatever it cost to get the job done right, even she said she wished she'd have seen me before this other guy was booked.

Had similar the other day, measured up for carpets and the chippy was sticking solid oak down, no dpm. When I went back 2 weeks later to fit the carpets I noticed the oak was cupping. Customer asked if I knew why it was doing that so I told her and her reply was "oh well, it's not too bad, we will just have to hope it doesn't get any worse"
