Bamboo nailing

Thickness 14mm,
Subfloor 18mm chipboard, no underlay

are 16 gauge cleats too big ? they seem it

 

hi def ply over chipboard ist screw down, cleats will pull out otherwise but i use them for bamboo also use tongetite screws if unsure.
