Is there any chance Matt you could put something in the faqs section about the correct installation for solid oak flooring? Ive just done a b & q oak floor and I put down mapei latexplan trade, 1k turbo then the s955 adhesive. Im now getting accused of ripping them off as they are saying I shouldnt of stuck it down and they are saying I should of floated it on the green fibre board they supplied. Any help from the forum on this would be much appreceiated
How about you join the BWFA and simply ask your customer to ring them for the answer Or just ring them anyway. Bit cheeky tho asking the BWFA to stick up for you when your not a member. Problem you got Merit is that glueing solids is the recommended method in the u.k. It does not mean that floating is wrong and some imported woodflooring etc may suggest floating. Hence i cant really put a FAQ stating what is the correct way. I can only put a prefered method of my own basically.
Yeah I will check with the manufacturer, see what they say. Some of them say you can float and some dont? At the end of the day I think it feels much better stuck down and the sub floor was miles out.
forget the manufacturers always glue to subfloor never float a solid it's DIY at it's worst, solid wood is miles too unstable, the whole point of engineered flooring is it's much more stable some up to 75% more most are made to be floated. Plus did you say fibreboard over a concrete sub-floor hope they sold a dpm for it aswell or it's pointless. Best practise is to really drop the subfloor batten and board with DPM and insulation then secret nail really get best possible finish and longevity from flooring.
