Does anyone use primer on the plywood if so why? Do you feather finish the plywood all over and is it ok to do that in a hot area. Think sandy said somewhere you can't use feather in direct sunlight areas. I used to just feather joints of ply as used staples to fit it. But now feather whole of the floor now. Never primed ply though.
I've never used primer on ply and that has been okayed by Karndean and Amtico beside if anything every comes up adhesion to the ply is never the problem unless it's contaminated. Re. using Stopgap 500 in hot areas although it says not to use it in extremely hot areas I've never known it to fail and I don't think anyone else had either.
dont prime ply floors and only feather joints if stapled feather whole lot if screwed down i have seen many a fitter not bother with feathering at all not sure how they get away with it
only feather on ply, used to do all over but now just the joints. i use a spotnailer and mallet so never leaves dents
I understand the Karndean instructions say you should use feather finish over the whole of the ply area - not just the joints. Not sure about Amtico.
Depending on who makes the feather finish depends on if it needs primer. For instance, Fballs 500 bonds very well to all types of surfaces without primer. However i find that 500 needs to be primed before you apply adhesive to the top of it.
