I have had this in the past and i know others have also. So have you ever been on a job and the customer moans that you are to slow? Then say the last fitter was 20 minutes but you have been fitting my lounge carpet for over 1 hour now? Obviously you are doing a better job than the last fitter! I even know of a NICF Master Fitter that had the customer phoned up his shop and asked if he was new to the trade due to him taking to long fitting the lounge carpet! LOL
Yeah a few times when I have stayed a couple hrs longer to finsh THIER floor an help them out. Thought you be finished by now......... I take my time alot more these days, well I am 40 now
Yes i have in the past , and yesterday i could tell the customer was getting edgy, kept asking if everything was alright. It was a tricky stairs and landing, but the previous guy tacked the carpet everywhere, and i had to put down gripper obviously. I must admit though i thought i was going to be there for the rest of my life lol. As you know the prep work always takes the longest and makes the rest of the work easier.
I forgot to say the landing had two steps and a platform off it , it looked the same shape as an arm chair, so i had to sew the corners, the previous fitter had turned it and there were lumps and bumps everywhere.
Yeah, I get that alot. To be fair most of the people I work for are worse than me! I did a bedroom carpet couple weeks back, I was sat down having tea and cake for half hour before I even got the tools in. I always spend alot of time talking out on the estimate, I think this will be 20mins most and normally end up there over an hour. The worst is when you dont have time and the customer wants to talk to you through the whole job, even to the point where Im pulling the carpet out and they are practically under the thing.
