Just interested to know why we all come onto these sites? and what made you look for one in the first place?
I for one think it's great to share knowledge and hopefully learn from eachother.

It is also nice to see that there's no real know it all's!!!
Just a shame no one tell's any jokes!!

for me personally its becasue i know i dont know it all.
I want to learn as much as i can..period
Also want to do the best job i can, 24/7
Always learning something new, all the time
Winds me up, when guys say 'i dont need to know anything else'
    bolox
Ive been in this game knocking on my 20th yr now, just soak it up like a sponge
Prob coz i have a healthy interest in all things flooring lol (maybe thats unhealthy?) hehe
Its great to hear other opinions on the same topic whether it be fitting styles or new products.
Its good to be 'around' other like minded individuals who share the same interests in their work

For me its sharing and helping others out. Like my signature say Together Everyone Achieves More. No I in team. And you're never to old to learn.

outside of work none of my mates are in the flooring trade, hell none of them are self employed and don't appercite the normal stresse's and strains of every day working on your knee's, they think it's all a nice cosy house and coffee,
this may sound trite but I enjoy what i do and on this site i can chat of just read what others are upto, get or give advice where nessary.
this site in paticular is always friendly and one come's across as being sanctimonious.

Ive only been self employed just less than a year and coming on here gives a hell of a lot of advice and tips of the trade also there is always someone lurking about on here to answer a question if a problem arises, also good to look at pics of what others have been fitting and even some of the jokes raise a smile

well for me its to help people and more than most, try and help raise the standard in the trade. Im sure we have all picked up a few tricks from each other on here as i certanly have. This in tern will raise my standards.

Also my next answer is going to be slightly different to the rest of yours simply because i built the place! One of my aims is to try and educate not only myself and the trade but more important i think is to educate the public. You can all use this place when your customer thinks your speaking rubbish and the cowboy your quoting against that is cheaper and cutting corners is the one speaking rubbish. You can simply direct your customer here and ask them to ask 'us' what the correct way is.

This is why i am strict and dont allow people to post up 'trade' prices that can distroy your profit. The only place your allowed to post prices on here is the 'Trade only section' . I dont let anyone in the Trade section unless they can prove they are actually in the Trade. Unlike other forums that allow you into 'Trade' sections after you have 10 posts etc.

I will also not allow a "diy" person come on here and advice someone on how to install a floor. Again i will simply remove or edit there posts and politly ask them not to 'advice' on subjects they no nothing about. End of the day, if i use a forum to get some info, lets say "how do i fit a tap" i dont want to be reading a post that is wrong and will end up with a tap that dont work would i?

I also dont allow people to slag each other or companys off. If it happens i remove the posts, if you carry on then i simply Ban you from the forum, i have been on to many forums where there is slaging matches etc and companys getting slatted when they have done nothing wrong. End of the day if it was your company someone was bad mouthing for no reason you would not be happy.

I think that is where we are different from other forums.

Anyway, i hope you all agree with how i work things around here? Im always open to suggestion / debate if you feel the need! ;)

I know I am only a newbie here but after reading most of the posts on here I've got to say this is a cracking forum. I think Matt's reply in this thread was spot-on and all you guys together have helped him to create a welcoming website.

I have been on other flooring forum's where it is full of arguing, bickering and smart-arse answers but I have seen none of that here.

So well done to all of you!!

I have to second what JellyBean has said the other forum with the hyphen in between I'm sure most of you know which one I'm talking about, If you post on there you tend to get an onslaught of rude comments verbal bashing and shot down in a ball of flames. Matt is doing a fantastic job here and having someone to police it is very immportant. I am a member of the american site and that to is very good and helpfull all the guys on there are great fun and always keep it clean.
