in what way dont they trust you?

To be honest i would not trust any fitter that i have not worked with before or is not recommended to me by a fitter i have worked with or maybe look up on a 'forum' to get a profile of the fitter (working on a profile section for you lot so people can chose a local fitter on here)

I will however take on a fitter (for a trail) if the fitter has proof that he is trained in his field of work. I.E, NVQ approved along with Certificates of courses he has attended.

After all Bladerunner, would you sub a contract out to fitter you know nothing about that could distroy your reputation or end up costing you a few quid in sorting the issues the fitter may cause you?

Or are you talking about some other trust issues ? Maybe leaving you in the office with his wife maybe? or husband? LOL

And the best 1, are you any good?

    LOL, yep. Sad really.

if you was going to work for me then im not realy intrested in how quick you are. End of the day if your quick then your not normally the best fitter.

It makes me laugh when i speak to others that are struggling to keep there doors open but say my fitter does 100sq'm a day but he has only done 1 job in the last month ??? Well ye, my fitters do maybe 30 sq'm a day on flat areas but we are busy due to customers coming back to us for the quality of work they have recived. Not for the fact the fitter was 15 minutes and they feel mugged of there money!

ITs a general idea to get a reaction on here as input for the forum.

We're a "shop" ;-) and whenever we receive a call, email or letter asking if we have any installation work, we request to see a portfolio, qualifications etc.
To be honest, most never ever reply or send us the requested items. So do we trust unknown fitters: no.

We do get requests to install further afield of our own area and are in the process of gathering a list of decent, professional fitters (through our own "trade program") so we can forward our clients without fearing our name gets muddled by dodgy jobs carried out by others.

I can see the way of thinking with portfolios and references etc in citys..
Up by me, its a fairly tight knit area, ie everyone knows everyone else
So its all word of mouth, so were only as good as our last job, and no room for complacencey (sp?)
Spose thats what we get for living in hicksville lolol

Well, to be honest, most of our works is carried out in rural Kent - not in cities ;-)

I like that. Some companies will judge an installer simply by the amount they can do.

To true Matt, there are loads of customers out there that just want quality work and will pay a bit more for it.
