I fit sisal and seagrass but only because none of the carpet fitters I use won't do it. I haven't done a great deal of it and to be honest I haven't been trained to fit the stuff as when I enquired at FITA I was told there weren't enough people interested to make up a course. I was told that I would have to pay for 121 training with a master fitter so I didn't bother.

When double sticking do you prefer fitting sisal or seagrass with gripper or without?

I dont use it on naturals only carpets. Cant see it working on seagrass etc. Also as it should be bonded all over you shouldn't have issues with fraying etc.

I take it you are talking about the roberts anti fray spray and not some new stuff for naturals?

I am aware of the procedure for fitting coir and sisal - acclimatisation, second visit for cutting in and all that but I still refuse to supply/fit it on a regular basis - I even chucked out my Kersaint Cobb sample book coz I was fed up of customers wanting it. Horrible stuff !!

second visit to cut in? why is that then? surely your adhesive has set and you end up with a baggy edge?

I was always told to leave it lapped up the wall a couple of inches till the adhesive dries, then go back next day and cut in. But I only ever fitted it once or twice

I was under the impression you should acclimatise it, leave it up the walls for 24 to 48 hours, then adhere it then cut and fit it.

Right ,its entirely possible that I have confused the issue !! But I am sure I read somewhere about adhering it and leaving it big to allow for cutting in incase the adhesive sucked in the flooringfrom the perimeter. Then when the adhesive is dry you had to go back and cut in. I'm sure it also mentioned something about using a Maestri stapler around the edges onto blank gripper. :? There was some long winded instructions for joining aswell which invloved cutting a channel out of the underlay and turning in the edge. It all seemed like too much hassle to me and as I said I now dont want to supply or fit it.

Im going back approx 11-12 years since the last time I fitted it.

Apologies if I'm speaking rubbish
