plywood or hardboard

    Which is best to use as a base for Laminate flooring. Plan is to cover the floorboards with 3mm of one of the above then use 3.6mm duratex underlay with the laminate going on top of that? It's for the first floor rooms in a house.

    i always prefer to use plywood its far more stable and my preference is 6mm

    as above.

    3-4mm is fine if the floorboards are super smooth but i guess yours are not as you feel the need for plywood with laminate on top.

    So ye 6mm + . Tip for you, sand/plane cupped edges of the floorboards first it they are heavy cupped.
