    Hi there.

I recently overboarded my living room in preparation for some LVT.
The room itself has been extended so half the room is original house and half is the extension.
Unfortunately the ply in the extended area crunches/pops when you walk on it of a morning. Small poppy. crunchy sounds. It then stops. However you can intermittently hear them afterwards when no one is stood on them.

The floorboards were all in good condition, nothing loose anywhere and were all cleaned prior to laying the ply.
We used decent quality 6mm ply. We followed the 15cm and 10cm around the edge and all were screwed in with 22mm screws. We started on the top, went accross in lines and each board has roughly 200 plus screws.

The boards in the non extended part of the room we have no issues with its just the extension.

So far ive go through the boards and added extra screws where it seemed the noise was coming from, ive also purchased some longer screws, measured out the joists under the floorboards and screwed into them. Its made a small difference but the issue is still there.

Im assuming its something to do with either the humidity or the temp changes under the floor. But besides, taking everything up and throwing down some form of adhesive i'm out of ideas as to what to do next.

Ive tried to include a video link with the sound, but site wont let me post links yet.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Cheers,

    Dean

    Underneath the ply?
Just standard floorboards. The extension was done in the 70s. They did a pretty decent job at matching the floor boarding in the part of the room that was original.

    Yes mate!
The whole room is. But it was solid, no noise, no issues atall before laying the ply.

Because it was breathing and loose. The ply will tighten it all up. I hate T&G floorboards. Had loads of hassle with them.

Seems odd. Were they clean? Well hoovered? Anything stuck between the floorboard gaps?
Have the screws bitten well? May have to remove some of the screws and try ringshank nails

Right…any suggestions on what to do!
Remove screws and just use ones direct into the joists, to not stiffen up the boards underneath?
    Would gluing solve it?

Would you recommend unscrewing the plywood boards and getting a plunge saw in between the tongue and groove to separate them and eliminate the minor movement?
Then Screwing back down, potentially with some kind of flexible adhesive?

Yes but a pain of a job. We used a multi tool. Watch pipes and wires though

hey if its gotta be done its gotta be done i guess! Ive got a decent enough multi tool.

Few beers and an afternoon...jobs a goodun!
I know the location of all pipes and wires fortunately theres are a bit low down to hit!

Would you recommend using adhesive and screws or just screws?

Last thing i want is to do all this and then have to take it all back up because there's still noise from not adding adhesive or something!

I’d cut them then screw the floorboards to the joists. 40mm screws.
Then plywood screw or ring nail it down.
