    Hi

I have a wooden floor (I'm assuming, as it was already installed when I bought the place) with underfloor heating, and prefab walls

For a while now, my wooden floor has been squeaking at a certain place.
The way it goes is, it would squeak in one area and then nothing, but I go to the opposite location, squeaks there and then nothing, I return to where I started and it squeaks again. Basically, it's like a see-saw effect.

What's odd, this happened only after I had the underfloor heating on for a couple of hours for the first time in a year, as I usually don't use the room much

And since I have underfloor heating, I suspected that the underfloor heating might have been leaking, but after having it checked, was told there was no leak. I bought a damp meter, tested at different locations, both on the wall, floor and skirting boards, all came back 0% and to make sure the meter was working, I did a control test by damping a piece of wood, it read it no problem.

I've spoken to a floor installer, and based on what I told him, he said that replacing the floor would not remedy the situation, and even if did replace it, it would just happen again and that the problem lies in the wood being too dry, his solution instead was, that I apply the use of a humidifier to bring up the moisture in the hope of fixes it.

The uploaded images show there is a gap between the wooded floor and the skirting board.

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me

    P.S.

I do have videos to show, but am unable to place a link to my cloud storage as this is my first post, and while I have them uploaded to YouTube, I seem to be unable to embed them here.

You will always get a slight gap under the skirts as they are aren’t fixed to the wood

If the underfloor heating is running too hot it will make the wood floor move. Usually get gapping between boards or cupping. Also the underlay can be effected by the heating

    So basically it got warped
Is there any chance of it going back to normal after a time, as long as I switch on the underfloor heating, which I haven't done since that first time.
and would using a humidifier help in any way.

Best guess, it’s what would have been standard for a wooden floor

It sounds like expansion and contraction when it warms up joints expand & rub against each other and or you have a have & hit & miss boarded floor underneath the base of the wooden floor these are prone to creaks and squeaks if not fitted properly also if the base floor is not true and flat a small ridge or dip over quite a short distance can cause a floor to bind and make it squeak

You could be right, I spoke to another installer and that's exactly what he told me, that my underfloor heating warped the joints and they're rubbing against each other.

so right now I'm looking at my options.

Hi if it is expansion due to heat transfer it is one of those things you might have to live with :( it is no ones fault or would be hard to point a finger and unless you rip the floor up and isolate the heat source, a thermal camera will show up concentrated hot spots i guess there must be an app but be careful with underfloor heating pipework yours maybe very close to the surface and you could end up with a lot more than just a squeak .
