    Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice before pulling the trigger on an updated quote from a central Manchester carpet shop (highly reviewed). The quote is for lounge, stairs, landing and 3 bedrooms.

    Full breakdown:

Supply + fit of carpet and underlay
Removal + disposal of existing carpet
    Abingdon Pure Elegance Turtle Dove
    Cloud 9 underlay
Floorwise Reflections Brushed Steel Nickel door plates (5)
    £2970

    Lounge 3.56x4.7m
    Stairs
    Landing
    Bedroom 3.13x4.36m
    Bedroom 3.41x2.35m
    Bedroom 2.17x2.34m

The original quote included Floorwise 11mm underlay and standard silver door plates for £2760. Changing to Cloud 9 increased it by approximately £100.

I suggested Cloud 9 Cirrus for the bedrooms/lounge, and Cloud 9 Contract/Super Contract for the harder wearing areas such as stairs/landing. I've seen countless suggestions for Cloud 9, hence why I asked for the quote to be changed.

    Thoughts?

I would use the same underlay throughout or it will feel different underfoot.

Noted, thank you. Presumably that means I should go with Cloud 9 Cirrus throughout the entire house, or would you recommend something else?

We do a lot in treadaire chromium on stairs and if the customer a bit of a softer feel ambience in the bedrooms.

That’s what we would use. But all those underlays would be suitable

How does this all compare against the Floorwise 11mm we were originally quoted?

To thick imo . It’s all about density.
Chromium is 180kg and matches the gripper height better.

Sounds we should stick with Cloud 9 Cirrus throughout or consider Tredaire Chromium.

Cloud 9 Cirrus v Tredaire Chromium
Material: PU Foam v PU Foam
    Thickness: 9mm v 9mm
    Tog: 2.6 v 2.26
    Sound Insulation: 39dB v 42dB
    Price: £4.73 m2 v £5.30 m2

Worth looking at Wilson Plushwalk 10mm?

Don't think plushwalk is any better than cirrus or chromium

Cirrus ain’t as good for density. We used to use that all the time.

I had a chat with the NW Regional Manager from Ball & Young. Also had a chat with a bunch of local carpet shops.

I'm now swaying towards Cloud 9 Charleston 9mm for the stairs/landing and Cloud 9 Charleston 11m for the bedrooms/lounge. 156kgm density, so much higher than than the Cirrus. It's also quite a bit cheaper than the Wilson Plushwalk.

    Any issues with this?

Great underlay. Used to use the 9mm Charleston a lot.

Just started using the charleston again on the higher end carpets, still use the Jade 9mm on everything else.
