Hi, new here so hello to you all, i've just started laying my new laminate, but not cut one piece yet, just ran into a problems, two pictures here, you can see the way the laminate is laid and when i go to lay the third row it doesn't match the first two rows, and the joins will be out if try to make it match, any ideas how to lay this with similar joins all over without wasting loads of flooring, thanks for any help really appreciate it.
For me, thats an incorrect way to fit laminate. You use the cut from the previous row to start the next. You alternate these cuts so you dont have a pattern repeat. You should stagger the joints randomly. Not brick bond them. As you say, you can end up with alot of waste
Hi, thanks for the reply, it's very much appreciated. the only issue i have is the breast wall in the way to be able to do that, how would you do it thanks
You won't get even cut if you've got random walls lengths, will only work if its square. Stagger it, looks loads better but if you really want to brick bond it then like I say, it won't happen.
Makes no difference mate, you'll just have a couple of smaller fills then when your out the way of the breast, itll flow
You could start from the opposite wall then work up to the breast if it makes it easier. Try and leave around 25-30cm staggers but don't do ever 3 rows the same, random it up so it's all mixed up. Is some of that skirt on the breast wall been undercut? Obviously leave enough gap round the perimeter to allow expansion ready for your beading.
Hi, none of the boards have been cut yet, just laid in place, that the gap i have no choice to have because the wall is out quite a bit, i was thinking it's best to have slithers there than to the wall opposite, when you walk in the front door and see it, also the firs plank on the left hand side, in the first picture, should i cut a small piece as it is, then leave the long plank as it is, as the fireplace wall measures a plank width, and then lay another full plank the other side of the breast, and the use the off cut to start a new row, instead of how i have laid them like brickwork, and then go from there thanks for help.
You cannot use a cut piece in the middle of the floor as you need to click it at each on to another plank. All cut ends must be at the end of a row, a point that has no connecting plank.
Hi, thanks for the reply, sorry Andy, i'm not the best at explaining, but not what i meant, the first row next to the wall, in the left hand corner, wanted to know about cutting that piece first, which i don't think matters, it's the right had side that matters more as i will be using the offcut to start the next row, i just want to know where to start cutting from from the off, bearing in mind, that the breast wall is a plank long bar a few mm. thanks for the reply Andy.
your over thinking it!! Wherever you start, work out the first cut and start with a full plank if you can and just go from there... The opposite end cut use for the start of your next row providing its a decent size and not a 20mm fill...
Thank for that, it's not going well, it is what it is, just can't be assed with it, as long as it down now is all i'm thinking, thanks for all help and advice it was good of you, kindest regards Tony
Hi, i got this pattern emerging after taking advice from somebody else, i think this is what you said to avoid, i did try lay it plank for plank and ended up with less than what the manufacturer suggested to use the shortest piece being 400mm in that case i suppose i would have to cut both ends ???. it looks terrible to think i did this sort of thing before but seems to have been lobotomized somewhere down the line. ffs.
Here's the whole floor thanks for any help. if anybody could possible draw me a pattern of what to follow i know this floor doesn't look great a round the edges luckily i'm using beading to cover the chitshow thanks
