Hi all, new poster here. We had a new stair carpet fitted today. It looked fine to me when I looked at it at the end of the job, but on closer inspection I don't think it's been fitted properly - it hasn't been tucked in at the edges of the tread on each step and just runs up to the edge. I can already see "stringy bits" suggesting it will fray. Surely this isn't right...? Pics attached
Straight stairs arent grippered on the sides as part of a standard fit, i do personally cut the underlay short on the sides and tuck my carpet down but everyone does it diferently. Reffering to the carpet being short, it shouldnt be like that. Looking at that carpet and you saying about the strands, has me thinking that he may have cut them correctly and as you lay them sometimes the edges just literally fall apart. It can be quite hard and annoying sometimes with the quality of todays carpets. Call them and mention it.
Thanks both for your replies. The carpet shop owner came over this morning and agreed it's short, so he's replacing it and fitting it himself. Excellent after-service!
