D4D6B522-5C40-4DF2-BD28-9BD96A5CD7BC.jpeg We have had Invictus Maximus New England Oak Herringbone LVT installed (glued down) over newly installed SP101 ply. Within 2 days the joints either side of one sheet of ply showed through from wall to wall.

This was a professional installation. The ply was feathered and laid perpendicular to the existing timber floorboards. No underfloor heating.

Can anyone please confirm whether the tiles can be lifted and reused once the plywood joins have been repaired or are new tiles required?

Did he actually fix it down :D
It can be sorted providing it's just that joint.
The floorlayer wants to check to make sure its the actual fixings and make sure theres no movement in a joist.

How old is your house? Was the subfloor moisture tested? Was the plywood acclimatised?

Thank you for your replies. The floor is in an extension which is approx 20 years old. The ply was fixed with ring nails every 100mm. It was fitted on the same day they brought it with the tiles fitted the following day. Not sure if they did a moisture test.
They haven’t been back to look yet and have only seen the photos but said they will sort it out. They also said we don’t necessarily need new tiles. We are concerned that the tiles could be damaged when they lift them as they are glued down and have been installed for over a week now.

Swelling ply is usually moisture. The subfloor could have a higher moisture content than the ply. Maybe too much water in the feather finish. Or your subfloor is unlevel causing the ply to ridge. Put a level over the line

What (moisture) percentage should the floor and/or plywood be at?

Thank you for your reply. Strange that it’s only the one sheet of ply. The rest of the installation seems ok and it was approx 9m x 2.7m.
The installers are coming out this afternoon so we will see what they say.

Is it level? Maybe it’s got glue sitting in it

That ply is dried to 8-10% most floor boards I take a reading of are well over that.

Is it in line with the extension or the whole floor complete?

The problem area is almost central within the whole floor of the extension with no problems either side.

It seems wider than a ply line. The subfloor below all the same? Maybe just one bad board if they are laid across the floor that way

It’s approx 1.2m wide. The subfloor below is all the same.

Defo the ply header then. Maybe a different batch/board. If it’s just one it’s a easy fix. Probably need new planks tho

So it’s not showing through from wall to wall as you said? Only 1.2 meters

The joins which are showing run almost from wall to wall in the room but this is the length of the ply. The 1.2 m is the distance between these two joins which is the width of the ply.

Right so it’s either side of the sheet of ply. Could be unlevel floor then. Still would of thought moisture has likely got into it

Update - the fitters have been back. They think it was a fault with the one board which has grown either upwards or sideways causing a ridge to develop at either side. They did have a moisture reader with them and checked the levels which were ok. They were here 5 hours sorting out the ply joins and relaying new tiles. It looks perfect now but it looked perfect when they left it last time until the problem showed up within two days. They were saying they followed all guidelines to the letter and had even taken photographs at each stage of the original installation. They seem very professional and determined to sort out the problem so can't fault them in that respect. Hopefully it is sorted now. Thanks very much for your input everyone.
