Why is so much of todays gripper so s**t?

British standards states a nail should be within an inch of the end of a stick, yet unless you buy some of the high end stuff its all 2 or 3 inches from the edge, its questionable how its even able to be sold if it doest meet BS?

Then theres naming their gripper "premium" and its actually 5mm high, damp, hollow, misshaped or half the nails have fallen out in the box.

Lastly, the spikes are so close to the schamfered edge that it almost forces you to put gripper wider on stairs otherwise youre banging the back row of spikes flat, and if the carpet is supple or forming , it shows the spike through too.

Its fine when you sell a job personally, id always buy diamond gripper or an equivalent, but when sub contracting you end up with cheap crap.

    Just me?

It’s crap. Diamond gripper is all we use, it’s the only decent one. Tried others but nothing as good.

Its supplied for us, we usually use dickinson moore, the gold box, which is fairly decent. Had a load of the dickinson moore elite aswell and that was great. Atm we're using wilsons royale gripper, pile of shite

I tend to find if its new build its whatever is cheapest on the day, and normally absolute shit.
I worked for one firm where you buy the gripper, and that was good, but expensive.

If I’m doing my own job I’ll use diamond, but at the moment I’m doing a lot of contract work and the gripper is supplied, they are using Q&A standard gripper and it’s utter shite. Half the nails are missing or there’s 2 nails in the same hole and every few sticks the spikes aren’t pushed through or I’ve had a few sticks where there is no spikes at all
