Amtico spacia LVT

Hi All

I've purchased some amtico spacia metropolis ice, enough for 45 sqm.
Its going on a concrete floor that has been finished with levelling compound.
The room has been extended so half is new block and beam and the old half is 1971 concrete slab, hopefully with dpm...
The extension is now a year old so should be dried out.
I took advice from had a proffessional floor screeder (knowing i needed a perfect floor for lvt) who came and ground down the old house floor and self levelled the whole floor, i would need to find exactly what compound he used.
I gather from reading that I should do a moisture test of the floors, which test kit do you use? Is it best to get someone to come a do this?
Then, which primer and adhesive, and which brand ? Uzin, F Ball...?
My mate used Uzin and said it was good and highly recommended, he was on wood subfloor, is this best for concrete?
Any advice and tips would be much appreciated.

Get a 'proper' pro in who knows what they are doing with regards to moisture testing, not worth you buying one mate as they cost a fortune and you'll only use it once.

Assuming you having another screed done on top then?.....Primer (depending on floor type) then you could use ardex P4/uzin pe280 or fballs but depends what type screed is used.

Adhesive then stick with Uzin Ke49/Ke66/tlc HT/karndean HT...I don't use amticos HT as I find it dries out to quick.
Amtico tiles will need to go in on a 'wet set' method for the best result

I spoke to the screeder and he said it was just an ordinary cement based screed.

With regards to moisture he said it was 'dry'. His reason being that the old vinyl tiles, put down at least 30 years ago, were hard to lift up and had no bubbling etc. Also, he said that when he ground the floor he could tell from experience there was bo damp, overall he said it should be fine.......?
Is it still worth getting it tested ?
So if you had a choice and cost no issue which manufacturer would you choose?

 

Get it tested still if I was you, least then you have confirmation as to whether you need a dpm or not.
If he ground it out I assume he skipped the section with the old tiles then?

You can't go on by experience and tell if a floor is holding a certain amount of moisture or not, its a big risk to take seeing as you are putting an expensive floor down. Do it properly mate!

I'd go with either Ardex or Uzin, I use both.
Uzin being my first choice....only because I get a good discount on their materials lately

 

Yeh ok will try and get it tested to be on safe side.
The old half of the floor with tiles was completely ground and the new half was also ground slightly ad the builder screeded it too high!
So if worst case there was some damp, can you just put down an epoxy type primer then primer then tiles? Or, will it need damp primer and liquid screed again?

this is a worry? He must know what he used. You need to find out the screed he used to see if it’s moisture tolerant.

a moisture test on the 1970s side could be a waste of time if you have no Dpm under it as you will get a false reading.

 

I don’t think you can guarantee anything bonded direct to those subfloors. They are 2 different slabs and could move at anytime. One had a dpm and the other dpm was probably the adhesive under the old tiles. Even if you get a dry reading it could be false as Daz says.

Find out the manufacturer of the levelling compound that’s been used and get a spec from them

I will contact the screeder again and get the manufacturer and type used.

My kitchen is in now so its going to be a nightmare if I need to put any extra screed down now.
Can an epoxy dpm such as Uzin pe 480 be applied before the primer and ashesive to seal it ?
I got the flooring for £700 and am going to lay myself, I know its a lot of work and money to potentially loose but surely withall the correct sealers and adhesives it should be ok.....?
