Pointless info but did you know that some manufactures when advertising pile weights inc the backing to make then seem better than they actually are!!

I think most of them do with the exception of "Penthouse" it feels so much heavier through out all the weights compared to others

I have always considered pile weight to be a false indication of carpet quality. A heavy 80 ounce carpet with a long loose pile will be far inferior to a 50 ounce with a short cropped pile and an incredibly closely woven construction.
Tufts per square inch with a short pile length is a much better guide in my opinion.

Pile weight would only matter with 80/20 wool twists in my opinion tbh

Pile weight in a domestic household is pretty much irrelevant if fitted on a decent underlay....I might be wrong here but I've found a decent 40oz fitted on good underlay is more likely to retain its appearance than a 50oz from the same range! The pile on the 50oz is slightly longer and more liable to compress......Weird isn't it how customers are happy to buy a decent 50oz twist then want to fit it on Thermolay!!

Westex don't give a pile weight but they make by far the best 80/20 twists, only ever use combi felt or crumb rubber on 80/20's

Westex don't make anything like the best twist - yes there product is 2 ply and it is 80% Wool 20% Nylon but the quality of the spun yarn is not nearly as tight as Ulsters York Twist, Adam Carpets Fine Worcester or Brockway Solar
