How does everyone go about gaining contracts? I’ve plenty of experience in floor laying, however, wanting to take my business further...how would I get started getting supply and fit jobs for care homes/schools/ restaurants etc. Got all accounts in place just need the contacts
It is difficult. I dont know what position your company is in now, but here are some things I found. A good start would be proving your H&S is up to scratch. Maybe signing up to Safe Contractor or similar. Most companies will want to know your serious about H&S and that is a first step, and in some cases this will qualify you to tender for work. Some require other pre qualifications. Ive then found you really need an 'in'. A person you know who can put you forward for a job. Ive found that by far the best way to get started. Failing that, its ringing round contractors local to the area you want to be working. If you see a hording round a building with a main contractor advertised you could call and inquire. Having the skills and accounts is place is great. Just be careful. Even a small contract could tie up a lot of money very quickly, and big companys are renound for paying when they like. 90 or 120 days is still common practice and often less 5% retention which you may never recover. Good luck
Thanks for the advice, I am looking into gaining the chas accreditation to cover the health and safety, also I don’t really know anyone that could get me ‘in’ hence the struggle to get started... hopefully calls and emails will open some doors
Good call. Im sure calls and e-mails will pay off. I have often found that being flexible enough to help cover a job over weekends or nights has always helped too. If others can`t do, and you can, once your through the door, thats it. What area are you in ? Ive just turned a Holiday Inn job away as were too busy when its programed
