Evening all, We are the process of having a rear extension in a 1930's semi detached house that had a downstairs toilet and small area that housed the gas meter and patio doors. Unfortunately following knocking through we have discovered numerous different levels and could do with some advice to get the floor levelled at the most cost effective way There is a 40mm difference between the concrete base and the floorboards in one area of the extension, the overall area is 18m2 that would need raising 40mm and then have levelling compound spread across the extension and surrounding areas. We have had numerous suggestions to raise flooring 1. Levelling compound - Suggested by the builder we have been using, however I don't trust him to do a good job so thats out the window 2. Someone suggested flooring insulation such as Celox Tex 40mm TB4040 Insulation Board with a DMP membrane down, then a latex levelling compound putting down 3. Another concrete mix to be poured to raise the level 4. My favourite suggestion. Give up. Sell the house. Move on from it Appreciate any help and suggestions
We sort jobs out like this a lot and they are never cheap. 1st thing to do is take them bricks out and Quarry tiles up. As the new sand and cement is low I’d take the floorboards up and replace with a decent 18mm plywood. Work out the high spot and work to that. Will need a moisture tolerant smoothing compound and a liquid dpm then another smoothing compound. you be better with a decent flooring company sorting it out.
