Hi, hoping for a bit of advice from those in the know! We are having an extension at the moment. Our initial concrete sub floor was laid 10 weeks ago and we then had some additional leveller laid a week or so ago. Will leave it a bit longer to dry but it’s pretty dry already given the hot weather. There is a DPM beneath the concrete sub floor. Would you use an additional liquid DPM before laying the wood floor? Our builder says it isn’t necessary given there’s a DPM but i’ve been reading that it’s a good idea. All advice welcome!
If it’s solid wood you need a surface dpm. To be honest it’s worth having some sort of moisture suppressant put down just to make sure. If you have a engineered wood floor and your new slab is dry below 75%rh then technically you don’t need one. A decent fitter will test the slab for you before fitting anyway Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also you need to check that additional leveller is moisture tolerant or you won’t be able to use a dpm over it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you! Do you find all liquid DPMs can be used with adhesives from other manufacturers, or do you generally need to use one from the same manufacturer? Are there any particular liquid DPMs you recommend? Thanks so much!
You will always be better off sticking to products made by the same manufacturer. Rewmar and bona are both very good and make dpms and adhesives Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Find out from your builder which smoothing compound they used, what strength it is and did they prime the floor? If so, what with. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
