scouring youtube i come across a video of a carpet fitter in america installing a single bar on vinyl,he used a mallet to flatten the single bar and ive never seen anybody do that before unless its really thin carpet or the door doesnt shut over the single and the customers requested it.

So i looked further and see multiple videos of americans hammering the single bar down, have i been doing it wrong for years or is it an american thing lol

I know they end up flattening but thats mainly because of how poorly made the ally bars are now.

What i meant to ask was is it incorrect if i dont flatten every single bar i fit into.obviously theres reasons to flatten them with some carpets but not every single one?

Not every single one but I flattern some slightly for a flusher fit. Especially if it carpet>Lvt. All depends what carpet is going into the single.

All door plates are meant to be flattened but I only do it if the carpets are really really thin.

I saw this in New Zealand whilst in New Zealand. I do it now on some jobs depending on carpet and where the bar is

I do it if the door doesn’t quite clear but sadly more often lately because of thin cr&p carpet being fitted into it. I just use a piece of carpet or underlay on top of the plate and a rubber mallet
