They only do set widths so not much room for manoeuvre there... and aren't you supposed to have a little bit extra? I'm basing all of this on a youtube video I watched on how to fit a carpet though. lol
It was from online carpets. £18.99 m2. I noticed that Thomson’s world of furniture sell the same stuff for £30m2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What’s the concern? The vastly cheaper prices? I have some sympathy with that I guess. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the prices charged for underlay, gripper etc. in some of the big chains. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I often wonder, how the internet Charlies cope, when there is a fault in the carpet . Do they come out and inspect it?, they can do it silly cheap , as they offer no expert pre purchase advise, or after sales service. Can I ask how long was the delivery time, and what company delivered it?
Sure. I ordered on Monday 4th at 8pm and paid £15 for Saturday delivery. Tuesday I got a phone call saying the carpet was out of stock and there was a 3-5 day lead time so the Saturday delivery was a potential problem. Tuesday afternoon I was told they would have the carpet in on the Wednesday so we were back on track. They advised they wanted to use their own delivery company as they felt I would get a better service but they didn’t come as far north (Fife) on a Saturday. A weekday delivery for me was not possible so I stuck with the Saturday. The delivery on the Saturday 9th was by a company called DX Freight. The driver was in too much of a rush in my opinion and was fairly careless as he chucked the carpets in through my window so if I was ever to use them again I’d make sure I had someone with me to help with the delivery. As for how faults are dealt with, I’ve always had a really good experience from online companies as they have tended to go the extra mile. I cannot speak for carpet retailers or the company I have ordered from however. Hopefully I won’t need to find out! There are other drawbacks from ordering online. For example, I’ve had to source a carpet fitter independently and I’ve measured up myself. I’ve also bought underlay separately which is due to arrive on Thursday. And I need to deal with all this stuff lying around my flat until I’m ready to have it laid. I also spent a lot of time browsing different sites, requesting samples by post and calling to check stock. Compare this with turning up in a shop one day, having a fitter visiting to measure and then having the carpet and underlay delivered and fitted on the one day.
Try lay out the carpet day/night before he comes if possible. Might help it relax before he comes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Interesting how much fitters talk about power stretchers on here. I’ve been fitting carpets over 20 years never used a power stretcher once. Or know any other fitters that use them.
As for buying online we try to avoid and do Supply and fit only. We done a couple previously one carpet was damaged and the other had grease marks all over it. If we do price customers for fitting there own materials brought online the fitting rates go right up they can take it or leave it and in the end half the time they don’t actually make a saving.
For what it’s worth, my carpets are now laid and I couldn’t be happier with them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
