Hi, I am little confused as to what the best way is to proceed with preparing a subfloor for laying engineered wood onto. The floor in question is an original Victorian quarry tile floor. The previous owner had put down a laminate floor on top of these quarries with a DIY store underlay which had a foil covering which I think was meant to act as a damp proof membrane. This clearly failed as when taking the old laminate up around 25% of the floor was completely damp and the damp had progressed into the old laminate boards. The quarry tile floor as now been uncovered for a week and any evidence of damp has now disappeared. From reading this forum and other forums, opinion seems to be split with flooring professionals as to whether the existing quarry tiles need to be dug out and replaced with a new concrete floor with a DPM under this, or whether a surface epoxy DPM can simply be applied on top of the quarries such as ARDEX DPM 1 C or Unzin PE 480D? I would like to avoid having to dig out and replace the quarry tile floor it at all possible because of the potential cost and disruption, though equally, I don't want to cause myself further problems in the long to medium term with rising damp from the floor! Adrex states that their epoxy DPM solution is "ideal for use where there is no functioning structural DPM (common in older properties)" which seems encouraging. Could anyone advise what would be the best course of action? Can anyone provide me with some feedback on the use of these Epoxy DPM's in similar situations which they have encountered in the past? As I'm struggling to come to a conclusion myself! Many Thanks Rob
I wouldn't want to dig my floor out either sod that Ardex 1C Used it 100s of times where no mechanical DPM is present with no issues
If you are going to float the wood floor you could use a isolator sheet below the underlay Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
