Hello folks, I had Pergo laminate installed by a sub for a big box store. Situation was: I had carpet over old 12x12 vinyl tile which was installed by that old black adhesive - house is some 30 years old. Installer removed the carpet and put down the Pergo over the vinyl. It wasn't dramatically obvious but the concrete was wavy with an obvious sunken spot in one corner. Center of room has a peak and slopes downward towards both walls. After the install there were areas that were 'soft' - didn't conform to the shape of the floor. Since then - several weeks have passed - the laminate conforms a bit better to the floor. Wife says she can still see slight separation between planks when I walk in one area. Installation company says the install was good and I should have no problems in the future. Stated that there would be a problem with leveling the floor because of a fireplace that is in the room. My vinyl tile was never brought up by them as a factor but I suspect that you can't level the floor because of the vinyl - in addition to the fact that the fireplace would present a problem. Note that the installer never did a level check of any kind prior to his installation. My position is this: The flooring should never have been installed without informing me of the 'not level' issue so I could give a go or no go decision. My concern is that I may (will) have problems in the future when the floor is put under strain - such as during a party when there is a group of people walking around on it. Then, I strongly suspect that Pergo would deny any claims since the floor did not meet their specifications (pre install procedures) for a level floor. I have the option to pay a third party for an impartial inspection - $400 - which I would be reimbursed for if he agrees with me. If not, I'm out the $400. If he agrees with me, then I haggle with the sub contractor and/or big box store for compensation. What say you? Any/All input would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and expertise. Me
