    Hi,

I've joined the forum as it seems like the place I'm most likely to get an informed answer.

My partner and I recently moved into a 1930s era house. We're in the process of getting it how we want it, and are currently doing the hallway. We pulled up the carpet the other day and found this underneath.

Can you anyone advise as to what kind of floor this is? I suspect it's the original flooring. It has a polished, smooth kind of finish. Also, any tips for restoring it? There's the odd bit of paint which seems to have got on it sometime in the past (a drip here and there, etc). I'm guessing white spirit or similar to clean it up, then buff it?

    Any help is much appreciated.
